Samsung QN65QN90BD and Sony XBR-55X90J are both upper-midrange 4K TVs that rely on full-array local dimming. And quantum-dot or Triluminos color technology to deliver strong contrast and accurate hues in a living-room setting. Public specifications and aggregated reviewer data show the Samsung model using a VA panel with 120 Hz native refresh, while the Sony employs an IPS-type panel at the same refresh rate, creating measurable differences in off-angle uniformity and black-level depth. Neither brand has yet published complete side-by-side tables for screen size, exact panel type, resolution details, input lag, HDR formats, smart-platform speed, audio performance, or power consumption, so direct numeric comparisons remain incomplete. Review roundups indicate the Sony edges ahead in color volume consistency. And motion handling for film content, whereas the Samsung often records higher peak brightness figures suited to brighter rooms. The short version: pick the Sony XBR-55X90J if you value its brand ecosystem and are prepared to pay the higher MSRP.

Verdict: The Sony XBR55X90J is a solid, more affordable option for dimmer environments but lacks the premium features of the QN90BD. Both models are now superseded by newer generations, so consider newer alternatives if budget allows.
